Jaw/TMJ

Americans spend more than $1 billion a year on over the counter halitosis products, many of which are simply ineffective because they only mask the problem.
People who grind their teeth can sometimes develop a serious problem with their jaw, which left untreated, can adversely affect the teeth, gums and bone structures of the mouth.

One of the most common jaw disorders is related to a problem with the temporomandibular joint, the joint that connects your lower jaw to your skull, and allows your upper and lower jaw to open and close and facilitates chewing and speaking.

People with temporomandibular joint disorders (TJD or TMJ) often experience clicking or popping in the jaw joint when opening or closing their mouths. Such disorders may or may not be painful but often are accompanied by headaches, neck aches, ear congestion, dizziness or tooth sensitivity. Long term presence of untreated TMD can result in joint reshaping and persistent pain.

Treatment for TMD includes profound relaxation of the TMJ muscles with the aid of T.E.N.S., low voltage nerve stimulation and relaxation, in conjunction with the use of a precision orthotic appliance of plastic to relieve the symptoms

Dr. Ottersberg carefully monitors the progress and makes recommendations for treatment of a more permanent nature.
